Photograph photomasks are prepared with SR3000™ Self-Stick photo resist film ready to
apply to the substrate you will be sandcarving. This IS NOT a self adhesive film; nor is there any adhesive that has been applied. As a result, SR3000™ provides optimum potential for the highest resolution half tones possible with a photo resist film. Always
clean the substrate about to be sandcarved.
To transfer the photomask on to the item, FIRMLY apply with a
plastic burnisher. We recommend the use of a secondary burnish with our
Wire Wheel Brush. Peel off the clear carrier sheet by flicking a corner of
the mask until loosened. |

Using a pressure pot
system and 220 grit aluminum oxide or silicon carbide blast the
photograph at 25-30 psi for no more than 3 passes. Hold the nozzle about 4"-6" away and carve
with long strokes across the entire design. Once the clear membrane has
been removed (you will see it turn white and disappear rapidly) continue
to frost the photograph until a second pass is complete. DO NOT hold the nozzle in one place too long as the film will over-heat and burn through, leaving a speckled effect in the glass. Siphon systems are not recommend for photograph blasting. Photomasks can be removed by either pulling it off or by soaking for a few minutes in hot soapy water. There is no adhesive residue to contend with. A paint fill may be applied AFTER the mask has been removed using a high quality spray paint LIGHTLY sprayed onto the etching. Allow to dry completely, clean up with fresh razor blade. |
