Sandcarving Workshop
The Rayzist Sandcarving Workshop is a hands-on class taught by top industry leaders, designed to coach you in basic to intermediate sandcarving techniques. You will receive personalized instruction on a range of topics, from producing your own photomask to creating multi-stage carvings.
Class Curriculum
1. Graphic Basics
- Assessing artwork quality
- Cleaning up artwork
- Producing quality black-and-white artwork
- Vector artwork, bitmaps and JPEGs
- Handling and receiving correct file formats
2. Photo Basics
- Adjusting and converting image to grayscale
- Removing backgrounds
- Adjusting levels
- Performing bitmap line conversion
- Inverting and printing photo images
3. Making a Premium Photomask
- Using different mils
- Identifying film prints
- How to make the photomask
- Handling half-tone photos
- Troubleshooting
4. Hands-on Etching
- Surface and halftone etching
- Moderate etch and colorfill
- Stone carving and colorfill
- Etching and handling optic crystal
- Multi-stage carving
5. Production Techniques
- Applying photomask to different surfaces
- Working with curved surfaces
- Surface preparation
- UV gluing/bonding
- Painting (colorfill) engraved surfaces

- Friday night meet-and-greet

- 1:1 ratio of sandcarving cabinets to students
- Materials and instruction needed to produce five quality sandcarvings for your showroom.

Cost: $500.00 per person, $50.00 discount for additional persons in the same group
Hours: 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. Continental breakfast and lunch are included.

Cancellations: Must be made 30 days prior to workshop date or a $150.00 cancellation fee will apply.
