Updates and Corona Virus Response

Our staff is committed to providing you with the highest quality training in a health and safe environment. Rayzist has made some adjustments to provide you with the hands-on experience and increased health and safety measures for the wellbeing of our students and staff.

  • Limited class size and number of instructors in the classroom.
  • Our instructors will be wearing face coverings and have daily health screenings.
  • Students will be required to take a temperature test upon arrival at Rayzist Photomask.
  • Students will be required to wear face covering inside the facility to meet the COVID guidelines for businesses in CA.
  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available for you.
  • High touch surfaces and restrooms will be thoroughly cleaned every hour as part of our enhanced daily sanitizing.
  • Meals will be provided in a pre-packaged box and snacks will be individually wrapped.

Sandcarving Basics Workshop

The Rayzist Sandcarving Workshop is a hands-on class taught by top industry leaders, designed to coach you in basic to intermediate sandcarving techniques. You will receive personalized instruction on a range of topics, from producing your own photomask to creating multi-stage carvings.

Class Curriculum

1. Graphic Basics

  • Assessing artwork quality
  • Cleaning up artwork
  • Producing quality black-and-white artwork
  • Vector artwork, bitmaps and JPEGs
  • Handling and receiving correct file formats

2. Photo Basics

  • Adjusting and converting image to grayscale
  • Removing backgrounds
  • Adjusting levels
  • Performing bitmap line conversion
  • Inverting and printing photo images

3. Making a Premium Photomask

  • Using different mils
  • Identifying film prints
  • How to make the photomask
  • Handling half-tone photos
  • Troubleshooting

4. Hands-on Etching

  • Surface and halftone etching 
  • Moderate etch and colorfill
  • Stone carving and colorfill
  • Etching and handling optic crystal
  • Multi-stage carving

5. Production Techniques

  • Applying photomask to different surfaces
  • Working with curved surfaces
  • Surface preparation
  • UV gluing/bonding
  • Painting (colorfill) engraved surfaces

Terms: Full payment must be received 10 days prior to class. Check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express are accepted.

Cancellations: Must be made 10 days prior to workshop date or a $150.00 cancellation fee will apply.
